Bread and circuses baby!

Panem et circenses*, hunger games, however you dress it up … the message is the same.

A world in crisis, your citizens suffering, hell, distract and pacify them with spectacle. You don’t need to look far back … I know politicians believe the public has short term memories for the nasty stuff, but look at London 2012. Holy crap. Rioting in the streets months before, a disenfranchised population, no jobs, no hope, but then … along comes well orchestrated majestic imagery intent on manufacturing temporary hope out of real despair. Absolutely awesome show, but once the hangover healed, did things change? Brazilians know it’s all bread and circuses. Nothing real.

I love sport, but …

Occupy!
